Welcome to My World: Defining “Cozy Maximalism” in the Heart of Istanbul

Discover how Sema Eker blends cozy cottagecore aesthetics with maximalist details. A tour inside Maison Cozy & Life, where slow living meets dark, moody interior design in Turkey.

Is it possible to cultivate a slow, cottage-style life in the middle of a bustling metropolis like Istanbul? My answer is a resounding “Yes.”

Welcome to Maison Cozy & Life. I am Sema, and for years, I have been curating a home that reflects not just a visual style, but a deep feeling of belonging. While the modern world often chases “beige” minimalism and empty spaces, I found my true sanctuary in textures, memories, and what I call “Cozy Maximalism.”

What is Cozy Maximalism?

To me, maximalism isn’t about clutter or chaos. It is about surrounding yourself with things that tell a story. It is the art of layering—placing a vintage rug over warm wood floors, filling shelves with books that have actually been read, and choosing lighting that whispers rather than shouts.

My home is a deliberate rejection of the “showroom” aesthetic. It is a space designed for living, for my children, and for my dog, Piko. It is dark, moody, and incredibly warm. Here, every object has a soul, and every corner invites you to sit down with a hot drink and pause time.

Why “Maison Cozy”?

I started my Instagram journey (@cozylifebysema) to document this atmosphere. Over time, it evolved into a community of people who crave warmth in their daily lives. Whether it is my collection of unique mugs sourced from travels abroad or the way the afternoon light hits a velvet armchair, my goal is to show that beauty lies in the details.

If you are looking for inspiration to turn your house into a sanctuary of peace, regardless of where you live, you are in the right place.

Let’s slow down together.
